How Much Does a Massage Cost in Thailand?

For those of you who have never been to Thailand, this is a great advantage to visiting Thailand…

THE MASSAGES!!!

Back in the United States, the cost of a one hour massage is between $60 – $80 an hour.  In Europe the price is between 50 – 100 Euros.

In Thailand, the cost of a one hour massage is between $6 – $10

In Thailand there are 3 main types of massage available in just about every shop:

Traditional Thai Massage:

This is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. It is known in Thailand as “nuat phaen boran”, literally, the ancient-manner massage.

Oil Massage:

This kind of massage is gentler than Thai massage. It uses therapeutic oils and involves deep muscle tissue treatment. This massage can be a very sensual experience.

Foot Massages:

This is a massage which focuses on manipulation of pressure points on the soles of your feet in a very similar way to that of reflexology. Producing a relaxing effect on the whole body.

Not sure which one to get when you are here…with it being so cheap, why not order all three :)

  2. What is a reasonable tip for a regular 1 hour massage without the extras? I have spent a few weeks in Thailand and usually gave between 80-120 baht. Is that the right level?
